the best (and worst) of 2006!!

oh, where have i been???? well, i put up some new poems for you in anticipation of the new book... i have been soooo busy this december- i went to new orleans for christmas eve- lots and lots of pictures there ; ) and i'll show you those later. but first, y'all need to get your asses back to new orleans. the parts of the city that tourists and visitors go to is completely intact. the french quarter, the garden district, etc etc... not touched at all. remember kids, the storm left the city alone, mankind's lousy levees didn't. they broke after the storm and flooded the city, well, all of it except the garden district and the french quarter. the city is beautiful and i'll send you those pictures in january. because... i'm off to miami beach, florida for the next couple of weeks. sooo... here's some shots you didin't get to see in 2006. and for some, there's good reason. love y'all...

ok, this is hilarious. they had a hot pepper eating contest. they started with these three contestants eating a pickled jalapeno. then a fresh one. then a serrano pepper. next - the habanero. then the thai pepper. that girl on the end was acting all bad-ass, but eventually cried. the cutie in the middle ate an extra habanero for shits and giggles but was not afraid to show his pain. the mexican on the other hand just couldn't be bothered and totally won, of course. he'd eat the pepper up and kick the stem into the crowd like a soccer ball (futbol).

this shot is from a series of photos i had done by the brilliant and talented leo of leo laredo creative photography for possible use in my new book the canopic garden (coming soon i promise!) these are some of my favorites. and by the way, some of the photos are 'untouched' by leo himself... he's a perfectionist with his photos and would have photoshopped some of my sweat out... etc etc. so... some of these are raw much to leo's chagrin... love you leo! great photoshoot! xoxo
